Louise Tonner

Head of Humanities

My name is Louise Tonner. This year I will lead the Humanities department.

I’m thrilled to be returning to Gems Metropole School for another academic year.

I graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2013. For over seven years I have taught Humanities with Psychology and Sociology in Edinburgh, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. I’ve been part of the Gems Metropole School community for two years.

This year I will be leading History KS3/IGCSE. I’m excited to take part in class discussions with my students. Together we will participate in a historical learning journey through time.

My vision is to incorporate a range of interactive teaching and learning opportunities for students. It is so important to me that the our students are passionate, engaged and inspired. I believe firmly in a classroom culture of mutual respect and appreciation of individual student talents. Our students should be autonomous learners. It is vital that both students and teachers are accountable for student progress. There will be many opportunities for creative leadership in the classroom. Class debates will facilitate opportunities to engage in communication, critical thinking and collaboration.

Wherever possible, I aim to provide opportunities for learning beyond the classroom. This means students will be given the chance to explore history through archives, museums or even personal family stories!

I am extremely excited to be reunited with members of the school community. I have greatly missed our outstanding students.
