Head of Year 5
My name is Rebecca and I am thrilled to be continuing my journey at GEMs Metropole as Head of Year 5 for the year 2020.
I completed my Primary Teaching degree at York St. John’s University in 2013 and have been teaching ever since my graduation.
My career in teaching started in a small town in Yorkshire called Pontefract, near to where I grew up in Leeds. I stayed within this trust for 6 years. Throughout my time there, I taught across two schools, and most year groups from year 2 to year 6. I have been extremely lucky to have had incredibly supportive leaders who pushed me to develop my career early on. Because of this, I have gained Mastery Mathematics Lead from the Yorkshire and Humber Maths Hub, became an SLE for mathematics, completed my NPQML and assumed the role of Upper Key Stage Two lead in 2017.
During the first few years of my teaching, I decided to continue my higher education studies at Manchester Met University and Edge Hill University where I studied a STEM teacher’s course and achieved my Mathematics Specialist Primary Teacher status.
I have also had numerous opportunities to provide training sessions for the whole of my academy trust. In addition to this, I lead a Mathematics Network Group and Year 6 Network Group for specific teachers across the schools. In my final year at the academy, I was chosen to be a part of the Teaching and Learning group where I developed the whole curriculum for years 5 and 6 for the next two academic years.
Outside of school, I enjoy reading books; drawing; walking my dog; and travelling to new places. Since moving to Dubai, I have also developed a keen interest in fitness.
I am very excited to continue my journey with Metropole and see it continue to grow and succeed and provide the best education for its pupils.
