Sarah Burns
Head of Humanities
My name is Ms. Sarah Burns and I am in my second year at GEMS Metropole as the Head of Humanities, Geography specialism. Before moving to Dubai, I have spent 3 years in Myanmar and 5 years in the Dominican Republic as well as several years in Greater Manchester. I graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University with a BSc in Human Geography and Social Sciences and from Manchester Metropolitan University with my PGCE Secondary Geography.
Throughout my 18 years of teaching, I have specialized in many different subject disciplines, such as, PSHRE, Leisure and Tourism, Global Perspectives and Social Studies and I thoroughly enjoy teaching a range of subjects and working with different departments.
In my spare time I love to travel and I have been lucky enough to travel to many exotic places in both South East Asia and Central America. I love exploring un-spoilt places, off the usual tourist trail and learning about new cultures.
I am extremely passionate about creating thought provoking inspiring lessons about the world around us, at the same time as encouraging independent learning. I am passionate about the environment and sustainability and this is something I am keen to develop in further in GEMS.
