Nikita Giles

Head of Psychology & Sociology

My name is Nikita Giles and I am Head of Psychology and Sociology. I am really looking forward to the new academic year and welcoming a new cohort of students into my classroom!

I am originally from Dorset, a county on the South Coast of the UK. I completed my GCSEs at Thomas Hardye School in Dorchester and after a short stint working for a bank, I completed A-Levels at Weymouth College. I went on to graduate from the University of Warwick, UK, with a BA in Sociology with a specialism in Social Policy. After graduation, I gained a place on the Teach First Leadership Development programme, completing my PGCE at the University of Exeter, UK.

After qualifying, I worked at The Bourne Academy in Bournemouth where I originally taught English before moving onto introducing Sociology as a subject option. During this time, I moved into a pastoral lead role as a Head of House and was also a designated safeguarding lead for the school. This was a truly rewarding role; developing close relationships with families to support students, particularly through the transitional stages of their educational journey. Before moving to the UAE, I was working at Magna Academy Poole in Dorset, UK in the position of Head of Psychology and Sociology, as well taking on a pastoral role as Year 12 LEAD teacher.

As a teacher I focus on creating a culture of belonging and maintaining high expectations of behaviour and conduct. I champion deliberate practice wherever I can, as I believe it is the gateway to progress. My subject specialisms drive me to develop students that possess strong critical thinking skills and an appreciation of other cultures.

Outside of school I am a keen traveller , a book lover and I am happiest spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy sports in my spare time, particularly strength training and swimming.

I feel really privileged to be part of the Metropole community and leading in my specialist subject, Sociology. I’m looking forward to a year of progress, challenge and achievement and I look forward to working with you and your child to support them in their educational journey.
