Lydia Safhill
Teacher of PE
My name is Lydia Safhill, and I grew up in West Yorkshire, England. This will be my second year year working at GEMS Metropole and I am looking forward to developing and contributing to the dance provision.
Prior to my teacher training, I attended SLP College, a specialist provider of Performing Arts where I trained in all styles of dance including Jazz, Ballet, Commercial, Musical theatre, Contemporary and Street dance, alongside drama and other relating subjects within the Arts.
This led to the opportunity to work within the industry as a professional performer dancing around within the UK and abroad, as well as TV work for various companies and agencies.
I have been a qualified teacher with dance specialism for 6 years, leading on GCSE, BTEC and A-Level qualifications, as well as experience as an examination moderator.
Creating show content is a passion of mine. I have been fortunate to take on the role of choreographer for multiple shows including, Chicago, High School Musical and Sister Act, as well as annual dance showcases and competition entries at previous schools.
Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to teach children from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds, with a wide range of abilities and interests.
I love working with students who discover their passion for the arts, nurturing and developing their talents. Some of my recent graduates have gone on to gain places at Bird, Urdang, ICT and Royal Welsh in the UK.
Outside of work I enjoy being active, travelling and visiting the theatre.
