Matthew Frey

Teacher of PE

Hi I am Matt Frey, I was born and raised on Long Island, New York, where I developed a lifelong passion for wrestling through years of training and competition. As a former Division I wrestler, the sport has played a major role in shaping who I am, teaching me discipline, resilience, and the value of continuous growth.

Alongside my athletic background, I earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work, which has given me a deeper understanding of human development, motivation, and mentorship. Combining these experiences allows me to support athletes not only in improving their performance but also in building confidence, character, and a strong mindset both on and off the mat.

During my competitive career, I achieved national success as a three-time National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA) National Qualifier. Competing at the collegiate level strengthened my technical foundation and reinforced the dedication, consistency, and work ethic required to succeed in wrestling.

With nearly 20 years of coaching experience, including more than 15 years focused on coaching youth, teenagers, and adults, I have had the opportunity to work with wrestlers of all ages and skill levels. My coaching philosophy is built on discipline, accountability, and creating an environment where athletes feel challenged, supported, and motivated to improve.

Whether I am helping beginners develop the fundamentals or supporting experienced wrestlers in pursuing championship goals, my mission is to help every athlete reach their full potential and develop the skills, mindset, and confidence needed for success in wrestling and in life.
