Abbey Gibson

Head of Science Department (Forest School)

My name is Abbey Gibson and I am from the Scottish Borders. I grew up in Dubai and this will be my second year working at GEMS Metropole.

I completed my BA (hons) in Early Childhood Studies at Middlesex University in Dubai, and obtained my PDGE in Primary education at the University of Highlands and Islands in Scotland.

I have 8 years teaching experience, teaching the EYFS and Curriculum for Excellence, both in nursery and primary school settings. I taught in nurseries in Dubai for 5 years whilst studying at university. Then returned to the UK and worked as a deputy manager of a nursery and during lockdown I worked in children’s residential services for a local authority near Edinburgh. After lockdown I moved to Bangkok, Thailand and taught FS in an international school for a year.

Throughout my career so far, I have been fortunate enough to work with children from very different backgrounds aging from 2-19 years old. I have learned the importance of nurture based practice. Ensuring the children and young people feel safe enough to explore and thrive in the learning environment, whilst developing their resilience. Outside of work I enjoy reading, travelling and spending time with friends and family.

I look forward to welcoming you into FS2 as we begin this exciting journey into a new year! It's the start of a wonderful adventure filled with curiosity, growth, and new friendships.
