Molly Durnall

I am delighted to be entering my second year at GEMS Metropole School as Head of Humanities. With over five years of teaching experience, including leadership roles in both the UK and the UAE, I am passionate about developing a high-quality Humanities curriculum that inspires curiosity, promotes critical thinking, and enables every student to achieve their full potential.

As Head of Humanities, I am committed to ensuring students experience an engaging, challenging, and inclusive curriculum across Geography, History, and Travel & Tourism. I believe Humanities plays a vital role in helping young people understand the world around them, appreciate different perspectives, and develop the knowledge and skills needed to become informed global citizens. Working collaboratively with my department, I strive to create learning experiences that are relevant, thought-provoking, and enjoyable, while ensuring students are well prepared for future study and life beyond the classroom.

My passion for Geography stems from a lifelong fascination with how people, places, and environments interact and change over time. I enjoy bringing learning to life through contemporary issues, real-world case studies, and fieldwork opportunities, allowing students to apply their knowledge beyond the classroom and develop a deeper understanding of the world they live in. Having also taught History and Travel & Tourism, I enjoy making meaningful links across the Humanities to enrich students' learning and encourage them to think critically about local, national, and global issues.

Outside of school, I am an avid traveller and enjoy exploring different countries, cultures, and experiences that continually inspire my teaching. I also enjoy reading, hiking, and continuing to develop my Spanish language skills.

I look forward to another successful year at GEMS Metropole School to foster a love of Humanities, support academic excellence, and provide enriching opportunities that inspire curiosity about the world.
