Clare Aikin
Head of Year 2
My name is Clare Aikin and I am from Manchester, England. I am excited to be joining GEMS Metropole School as Head of Year 2. I have several years of teaching experience across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, both in the UK and Dubai, and I am passionate about creating engaging, inclusive and inspiring learning environments where every child can thrive.
I completed my PGCE in Primary Education in the UK and have continued to develop my practice through a range of professional development opportunities, including Visible Learning training with John Hattie. Throughout my teaching career, I have taken on a variety of leadership responsibilities linked to literacy, curriculum development, teaching and learning, and instructional coaching. Most recently, I have worked as a Year 3 teacher, Primary Literacy Lead, ECT Mentor and Instructional Coach, supporting colleagues to further develop classroom practice and improve outcomes for all learners.
I am passionate about literacy and developing a love of reading within children from an early age. I strongly believe that children learn best when they feel safe, valued and inspired, and I strive to create classrooms filled with curiosity, creativity and high expectations. I am committed to ensuring that all children feel confident in their abilities and are encouraged to challenge themselves both academically and personally.
Building strong relationships with children and families is incredibly important to me, and I value working closely with parents to ensure every child is supported both academically and emotionally. I believe that positive partnerships between school and home are key to helping children flourish.
Outside of school, I enjoy travelling, exploring new places and spending time with family and friends. I also enjoy keeping active and I am always looking for new opportunities to learn and grow both personally and professionally. I
am delighted to be joining the GEMS Metropole community and look forward to supporting your child throughout their learning journey in Year 2.
