Emma Eaton

Head of English

My name is Emma Eaton, and I am excited to be starting my first year at GEMS Metropole school as the Head of English and Media.

I have always enjoyed a love of literature and creative arts so it was inevitable that I would pursue a career in being able to pass that passion onto others; nothing compares to seeing young minds explore texts and develop their own creative writing skills, especially when a story takes an unexpected turn!

I completed a BA(Hons) in English Literary Studies at the University of Worcester in the UK and a GTP to become a qualified teacher (over 14 years ago). My experience to date includes roles such as KS3 Coordinator, PSHE Lead, KS4 Coordinator and most recently, Head of Department in a UK school where I was responsible for outcomes for all students and ensuring that outstanding teaching and learning was taking place across the team; I believe that all students deserve the best education to achieve their full potential.

In addition to my role as a teacher, I have worked as an examiner for both OCR and Cambridge International Examiners for the past 10 years which has enabled me to gain a wealth of experience in understanding mark schemes, exam board processes and requirements which is transferrable to all exam specifications and crucial in being able to lead the department in standardization and moderation processes.

My husband and I had discussed moving abroad for a long time and an opportunity arose for him to do so which led me to finding the GEMS Metropole family. We have relocated from the countryside of Northamptonshire with our two youngest children who have also joined the school, so I am deeply invested in the educational provision that the school provides and reader, to ensure that all students get a rich and varied experience in their English and Media courses.

In my spare time, you can find me exploring with my family, running or in Hyrox classes. I have completed four marathons and countless half marathons over the years so I can’t wait to participate in events here in Dubai. I am also an avid reader, so I welcome book recommendations!
