Akram Tarik
Deputy Chair of Governors (HSE Lead)
Akram Tarik has been at GEMS Education since 2015. He joined GEMS Westminster school Ras al Khaimah as Vice Principal and was then appointed Principal/CEO in 2018. Under his leadership, the school’s community grew to more than 3,000 pupils.
Akram began his teacher training in 2001, inspired by his science teacher who instilled a love of the subject. Between 2001 and 2009, Akram taught science in south and east inner-London. From 2010 -2015, Akram’s leadership supported schools in north and east London. He has previously served as an Ofsted inspector and has been a governor of two schools.
Akram was appointed as Principal at GEMS Founders school, Al Mizhar in August 2020. Since taking the helm at GFM, the school has experienced remarkable growth, expanding from 2,000 to over 4,000 pupils. In its inaugural KHDA and BSO inspections, GFM achieved a 'Good' overall judgment, with many areas now rated as 'Very Good' and 'Outstanding'.
Akram holds a BSc, PGCE, NPQSI and is due to complete his NPQEL in 2024. He has a particular interest in school improvement, particularly in the areas of science and mathematics and the use of assessment to improve the quality of teaching and in leadership and management.”
