Simone Owoo

Alternative Curriculum Teacher (FS1 and FS2)

My name is Simone Owoo, and I am from the North-West of England, UK. I am a qualified EYFS and KS1 Teacher with four years specialised experience in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Education (SEND).

I completed my Post Graduate Certificate in Education at The University of Cumbria, England, and my Undergraduate Degree (University of Manchester) is in Youth and Community Studies. I have 20 years’ experience of teaching and supporting children and adolescents with complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, at risk of exploitation.

Supporting children to develop their skills for emotional self-understanding and self-regulation is my passion.

I believe that teaching and empowering children to understand how their minds and nervous system processes information and the world around them, serves as a foundation in helping them sustain attention, impulse control, problem solving and planning skills - the skills needed to enjoy and access education and learning. Implementing strategies and ‘steps to success’ builds pupil’s confidence in all areas of school life and beyond, especially when helping a child to develop the skills needed to manage more difficult moments. E.g. not being first to win in a race, sharing space and resources with peers and building resilience when solving a mathematical equation that presents as being tricky or difficult to solve. I understand the importance of building appropriate, professional relationships with children, parents and staff, and how these relationships can positively impact pupil’s outcomes.

“It takes a village to raise a Child. Don’t be afraid to ask for help”.
African Proverb.

Beyond school life, spending time with friends and family is a priority, alongside traveling to new and familiar destinations.

I am excited and looking forward to being part of your child’s learning journey!
