Emily Shepherd

Head of Infant School

Emily Shepherd is our Head of Infant School and leads the Metropole students in FS1-Year 2. Originally from Hampshire in the UK, she has worked at GEMS Metropole for the past 5 years.

Emily completed a LLB (Hons) degree in Law and Business in Southampton, after which she achieved a PGCE in Primary Education. During her time in the UK she had the opportunity to take on several leadership roles including Lead Practitioner, Deputy Head of a Federation of Schools and Head of School in a primary school.

Beyond the school setting, Emily was appointed as a Specialist Leader of Education for The Department for Education and also a Local Authority Moderator for key stage 1. In addition to her career opportunities, Emily has also completed a Master of Arts in Education: Professional Enquiry.

In Emily’s early career, her specialism was always as an infant teacher; teaching across FS, Year 1 and Year 2. She has always had a strong passion for developing the ‘whole child’; supporting them not only with their educational achievements but also with their emotional development, wellbeing and personal successes.

As a leader of our Infant School at GEMS Metropole, Emily’s focus is now to ensure that students have a wide variety of opportunities with an emphasis on being curious, exploring concepts and taking risks. The Forest School environment provides incredible opportunities for this in which students are challenged and supported to understand the world in which they live. Ultimately, the Infant School provides the strong foundation from which Metropole students develop confidence, leadership skills and a desire to learn. This in turn supports them in their transition to the Junior School.

The Metropole community is an essential part of the school’s success and Emily looks forward to getting to know you all as she leads the Infant School; supporting students, parents and staff.
