Jodie Callow

Phonics Lead

My name is Jodie Callow and this will be my seventh-year teaching at Metropole. I am very excited for my third year in Year 1 as well as stepping into the role of Head of Phonics for Infant School.

I am from a small village in the South West of England and in 2017 I graduated from the University of Gloucestershire with a degree in Psychology. I went on to gain my PGCE in Primary Education a year later, packed my bags and began my teaching career at GEMS Metropole School.

I began at Metropole in 2018 as a Year 3 teacher and in 2020 I was fortunate enough to join the Inclusion Department. I have always had a passion for supporting students on an individual level and believe that every student is unique and has the ability to achieve great things. I have gained a wealth of experience, training and knowledge from my time in the Inclusion Department which has developed my teaching practice to another level.

I am enthusiastic about education and I am determined to create a welcoming environment to ensure all students feel safe, supported and confident to grow socially, emotionally and academically. During my time as an Inclusion Specialist, I have had many fantastic opportunities to support students’ varied needs to break down barriers to their learning and achieve great things.

I am lucky to have been able to complete my Level 1-4 Makaton training which is a skill I am passionate about students learning and love to bring into my classroom. In my spare time, I love to bake, kayak and read; I am a huge bookworm and love to encourage students to get excited about reading.

I am looking forward to continuing to share my passion for teaching in Year 1 and am excited for the year to come.
