Saqib Akram

Head of Business Studies

My name is Saqib Akram, and I grew up in Yorkshire, England, I will be joining the Business/Economics department at as HOD. I am returning back to Dubai for the second time after initially spending 7 years in the UAE.

I taught for thirteen years in the UK and have taken a leading role in developing key aspects of school life: pastoral provision, student attainment and whole school initiatives such as Work-Related Learning and Curriculum development. I have seven years teaching experience setting up the Business & Economics Curriculums in international school setting.

Before I trained as a teacher I worked in London and Bradford within the financial services sector, specialising in Business Statistics and Auditing.

From my background in Management Accounting, I have used my financial skills to create school systems which target, monitor and set intervention strategies in order to ensure that all pupils reach their full potential. Recently, I have worked as a consultant within the UK supporting the Manufacturing and Education sectors.

A day in my classroom is all about Business! You will instantly see engaging examples of other businesses with practical real case studies of the Business environment. I like students to take these examples and apply them to their own application on how businesses operate. I have a keen interest in the trading future contracts and believe in giving students opportunity to develop lifelong learning skills through demonstrating entrepreneurial abilities and innovation.

I love working and living abroad and this is the reason my family have decided to return back to UAE which we regard as our home. Outside of work I enjoy being active through running, and spending time with my family.
