Lauren Watson
Head of Maths Department (Values School)
Hello, my name is Lauren Watson. I am excited to join the Year 5 team after spending the last 2 years teaching Year 6, and I am thrilled to be returning to the Metropole family Head of Maths for Primary. I look forward to meeting my new class and delving into the rich KS2 curriculum by teaching exciting and stimulating lessons.
During my time in education, I completed a Bachelor of Arts in English with Education at Ulster University in Northern Ireland, along with a Diploma of Professional Placement. Following this, I went on to complete a Primary Post Graduate Diploma in Education at The University of Durham, in England. This last year I have been working as Deputy Head of Year 6 and House Co-ordinator, where I worked closely with the student leaders in our year group. During my time as a teacher, I have taught many abilities including pupils with additional needs, as I have previously worked as a special educational needs teaching assistant. I carry my learned practices with me and use them to fully support all of my pupils and meet their individual needs. I always aim to create a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment.
During this coming year, I will utilise my knowledge of the curriculum to plan a range of enrichment activities and experience to ensure your child flourishes. In my class, I wish for every child to reach their fullest potential. Furthermore, I wish to prepare my students for life beyond primary and ensuring that they have the potential and mindset to overcome any obstacles they face and achieve their goals.
I adhere to the high expectations of Values School in GEMS Metropole, to ensure each Year
5 student develops into an independent, respectful and well-mannered individual. I believe that intrinsically embedding High Performance Learning strategies into lessons plays a vital role in students’ learning, and is a common practice in my classroom. This will help build confident, real world-ready learners. I am looking forward to the year ahead as I know it will be filled with amazing learning opportunities for your children and look forward to working with the parents to create an enriching GEMS Metropole community.
