Amy Mcrobb

Head of Year 2

My name is Amy Aitchison and I am from Glasgow, Scotland. This will be my 4th year living in the UAE and my 1st year working at GEMS Metropole.

During my studies, I completed a BA Law & Business Degree at the University of the West of Scotland. I always had a passion for teaching and went straight on to complete my PGDE in Primary Education at the University of Glasgow.

I have 5 years teaching experience across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. In Glasgow I worked in 3 different schools gaining valuable knowledge and experience across the curriculum.

Since moving to the UAE, I have gained experience in the lower years of primary. I began working as an FS2 teacher for 1 year, shortly after I was promoted to the Head of Year 1, which allowed me to take on a new challenge and gain valuable experience in leadership. After this I was promoted to the Assistant Head of the Lower Primary School which required me to oversee the FS and Key Stage 1 departments. I have enjoyed my time working in leadership roles and look forward to bringing my knowledge to GEMS Metropole.

Throughout my teaching career I have been keen to undertake a variety of professional development courses. I have listened to teaching podcasts and read teaching books which I have taken on board and implemented into my teaching practices.

Outside of work I enjoy going hikes or walks on the beach, particularly in the winter time when the weather is cooler. I also enjoy travelling to different countries to explore the culture around the world. I often go home to Scotland to visit my family and friends and I cherish my time at home. My family and friends also come out to visit me in the UAE which is lovely as I am able to show them around the UAE.

I love working and living in the UAE and I am looking forward to beginning my new position of the Head of Year 2 in GEMS Metropole.
