Sarah Winn

Head of Year 13

My name is Sarah Winn, and I grew up in the Southwest of England; I have always aspired to be a teacher of English due to my love of the subject and my passion for inspiring and motivating young people.

I graduated from Cardiff University with a degree in English Literature in 2015 and completed my PGCE at the University of Gloucestershire in 2016. I was offered a teaching post at the school I trained at and spent the first two years of my teaching career at a large Catholic School in the Southwest of England. During this time, I gained essential skills and experience, in particular, teaching a large proportion of EAL students and differentiating work for SEN students.

Throughout my second year of teaching in the UK, I was given the opportunity to coach PGCE students and NQTs, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

In 2018 I decided I wanted to develop my career in the UAE and moved to teach in an all-girls’ private school in Abu Dhabi. This developed my skills teaching EAL students, as all of the students were from local families; this really helped give me an insight into the UAE culture and traditions.

In 2019, I made the move to Dubai and have been working at Gems Metropole ever since. I have had roles within the English department as literacy and Key stage 5 Coordinator and I am thrilled to be going into my sixth year at the school as Head of Year 12.

Outside of school I am a keen netball player; I love both the sport and working as part of a team. Since moving to the UAE, I have also developed a love for travelling to a range of different places to explore cultures and traditions.
