Lindsay Dodd

Staff Governor

My name is Lindsay Dodd, and I am originally from Plymouth, a coastal city in the south of England. I grew up in a military family with my father and both my brothers and I serving in the Royal Navy. After leaving the Navy I spent time working with families, in particular children, of deployed parents organising support, well-being activities and welfare checks. I eventually retrained as Teaching Assistant in 2010 working initially with children with additional needs and progressing to the role of Higher-Level Teaching Assistant providing support in Key Stage 2.

In 2019 my family and I relocated to Dubai and my sons started school at GEMS Metropole. (they are currently in year 11 and year 13 respectively). In 2020 I was fortunate to be offered a position as a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant at the school and have just completed my fifth year. Whilst my current role is working predominantly in year 4, I am fortunate that the role allows me the opportunity to work across the whole of primary. My role involves providing classroom support, leading lessons where necessary and line managing a team of Teaching Assistants. I love the diversity of my role and the opportunities it offers me to work with a variety of children. My love for education stems from a love of literacy in particular reading and seeing children discover the joy of a good book for the first time!

I am very fortunate that in my previous school I was a parent then staff governor for 4 years this allowed me the opportunity to be a voice for others and make a positive impact outside of my day-to-day role. I am passionate about making education accessible and enjoyable for all! Outside of school I enjoy travelling, spending time with friends and family, Formula 1 and reading.
