Head of Inclusion

“The important thing is not so much that every child should be taught, as that every child should be given the wish to learn.” John Lubbock.

During my studies at the University of Pretoria, I obtained a degree in Early Childhood Development and Foundation Phase, where I took Psychology for three years alongside my Bachelor degree. I further obtained my Honours degree in Learning Support. I worked at an inclusive school for hearing impaired learners for a year as I finished my Honours degree. I moved to a fully specialised Special Needs School in Johannesburg, South Africa for 5 years where I was teaching and heading a department. I was lucky enough to work with students on the Spectrum, with Global Developmental Delays, Hearing impairments, Epilepsy, Cerebral Palsy, severe Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, Down's Syndrome and children who have endured life changing car accidents and injury. I LOVED every single challenging moment with some incredibly insightful children. My passion for educating Special Needs students has further developed and enhanced, and my understanding for the different types of needs and how to best cater for these learners has heightened.

Since starting at Metropole in 2015 I have been based in the Inclusion Department where I have supported our learners with Additional Needs within the Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 3. I have been Head of Inclusion since 2016 and strive to keep achieving towards our outstanding target through our support for Students of Determination, Gifted and Talented students and those who receive counselling.

“People can only live fully by helping others to live. When you give life to friends you truly live. Cultures can only realize further richness by honouring other traditions. And only by respective natural life can humanity continue to exist.” - Daisaku Ikeda
